When we think about the CCTV camera installation, there is some CCTV equipment we need to buy or have before we can do the installation.

these materials are as follows;

This device comes in different channels, and the channel is what determines the number of cameras that can be connected it the DVR. They have 4 channels, 8 channels, 16 channels, and 24 channels of DVR. So when choosing the DVR to suit your installation, check the number of cameras you want to install and make sure the channel of the DVR you choose will not be less than the number of cameras you would like to install.

DC POWER SUPPLY.

CCTV camera power supply

This is the DC power supply which are used to power the cameras and makes them functional to be viewing things. The DC supply has there own unit, i.e a small substation that converts AC voltage to DC voltage and feeds them to the cameras. Each camera DC supply cable is protected by a fuse inside the DC units. But a 12v charger can also be used in place of the DC power pack to power the cameras

RJ45 / cat 5 CABLES.

while installing a CCTV camera, the cables that are mostly used are the RJ 45. The RJ 45 is a type of cable which have coaxial cable and other black and red cable together. This is the best cable for cameras as the coaxial cable connects with the camera video while the black and red cables are for the DC supply of the camera.

Cat 5 cables can also be used to run the connections but before getting them, try and check the connector of the camera. This is because some camera has RJ 45 plug connector while some use the BNC plugs.

BNC AND DC PLUG.

These are plugs that connect the camera with the wire to the DVR and power pack. The BNC plugs are where the coaxial cables are connected to while the DC cables are for the power supply of the camera.

Step by step on how to install a CCTV camera.

Planning for the perfect height and angle to install the camera

The first thing to do is to consider the perfect position of the cameras, where they will capture things well without reflection. Again is to know the particular room where the CCTV DVR machine will be installed. That is the place to view the cameras. After this, you will be able to tell the number of cameras you will be needing and the point they will be installed.

so after taking survey plans of the perfect position and height to install the CCTV cameras next is to run the cables.

Channeling the CCTV camera cables during installation.

In this stage of CCTV camera installation, We need to make our work neat and simple. For us to achieve that, we need to channel our cables properly to avoid cable lettering the space.

A separate wire (RJ45) is run from the camera point to where the CCTV camera DVR machine will be installed. In running the cable, conduit pipes or trucking pipes can be used. But clips as well can equally use to hold the cables to the wall.

Channeling of CCTV camera cable

When using conduits pipes the pipes can be channeled inside the wall and covered up with cement or run the surface of the wall using saddle clips to hold it. While trucking pipes are nailed to the wall with the help of concrete nails.

Mounting the cameras to the wall.

This stage seems more technical than other steps as it warrants careful handling of the cameras while at a height level. A scaffold or ladder should fix at a reasonable angle to avoid falling from the ladder or scaffold. Always remember to put on your safety kits while climbing a height. Knowing safety is not always enough but putting them into practice.

The camera has a hole on them, where it can be screwed inside the wall to hold it firm. Place the bottom setting of the camera on the wall and mark the point to drill. Using a drilling machine, drill the holes where you will put in the fisher nut. Then insert the fisher nut inside. Then use screw nails to tight the camera to the fisher making sure it holds it firmly on the wall.

A small knockout box with a cover should be fixed near the camera, where the camera plunge will be parked. This is to protect the plugs from water entering them, during rainy seasons.

Setting the camera to make sure it is viewing where it suppose to capture.

Immediately after mounting the camera, what you are to do is set the viewing point of the camera. This is to make sure that the camera captures areas we expect it to capture. And this setting is done with the CCTV setting monitor.

The monitor is a small portable device with a tv screen. This device has a plug that is used to connect to the mounted camera. Immediately the plug is connected to the camera and the device is powered ON. The areas the camera is capturing will be viewed on the device. Excess of this device is to fasten the installation process and make it easy on us. When the CCTV setting monitor is not available, one can finish the whole installation before settling them. But by then the setting will be done using the TV inside the room.

As the camera is showing on the device, then use the alleys key or screwing driver to lose the setting nuts and position the camera well.

Fixing the plugs of CCTV cameras.

after mounting the cameras, the next thing is to fix the camera plugs and pack them safely inside a knockout box.

the camera plugs are of two types, the BNC plug, and the DC plug. While fixing the plugs we should always make the wires are not bridging with each other.

how to connect the plugs of CCTV cameras

Most of the camera’s fault is always from the plug connection, and that is more reason we should carefully connect the plugs well. And makes sure water is not penetrating inside them.

To connect the plugs, follow the following steps.

  • Pill up the power cable of the RJ59 cable and tighten it up to the power plug minding the polarity.
  • Using the cutter, razor blade, or jack knife, trim and make the coaxial cable of the RJ59 look as it is in the figure below.
  • Slack the center screw nut, insert the center cable and tighten up. Grabbing the outer cables with the plug holder.

After the connection of the camera plugs, the next thing is to socket them with the camera plugs. And park their plugs inside a waterproof box to avoid water entering them.

How to Install the camera DC power pack.

The dc power pack of the camera is to be mounted on the wall near the DVR machine. Use a screw nut and fisher nut to tight it to the wall.

open the power box and connect the power cables inside it. It is labeled with positive and negative, so connect the camera power cables minding the polarity. Each camera has its port where the cables are to be connected. And that is why we choose the dc power supply with the channels of DVR we are using. To make provisions for each camera.

How to install CCTV camera power pack

Connect Ac cable and connect to AC source and then power the machine ON.

How to install the CCTV the DVR on the television.

For us to watch our installation work, we need television to view them. The DVR Connects to the television either using AV, HDMI cable, or AV to BNC cable. The cable is plugged into the Video output of the DVR and then to the television inputs.

At this point, the whole installation is good and ready to be powered ON.

Powering ON of the CCTV system

Inspect the whole work and make sure that their connections are properly connected.

plug in the television, DVR and dc power pack to the AC socket and power them ON.

After powering them ON, the DVR stays about some minutes before it finishes booting.

Set in your username and password and than sign in to start watching the cameras.
